After the explosion of Sawahlunto coal mine, resulting 10 people died, on Friday (12/9), West Sumatra Police formed a special team to inspect the permits of mines in West Sumatra.
“Not just coal mine, but also gold mine, and other mines in West Sumatra. This incident opened the door for us to review other mine’s permit in here,” said the West Sumatra Police Chief, Inspectro General Suharyono, Saturday (12/10)
He and the West Sumatra Governor, Ministry of Forestry, and related parties will ensure all activities in mine is legal.
The Police Chief also emphasized that they would not tolerate any mine who does not have a permit, because, he says, this could spark another illegal mine in another area with various alibi.
“We want to protect those who already have permit and ensure that there are no mine without permit in the area,” said Inspector General Suharyono, quoted from antaranews.com.
Meanwhile, he has ordered a special team under the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation to review the validity of mine in West Sumatra.
According to Suharyono, there are three methods that they could use in facing this issue, such as ordering mine to be closed or stopped without confiscating the mining tools, asked them to get their permit. And if that’s not enough after given the warning, then the last resort is to process them legally according to the law.
