Metro Jaya Police Thwarted the Smuggling of 1.2 Kg of Cocaine from Brazil

Tribratanews.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Directorate of Drug Investigation of the Metro Jaya Police, together with Customs and Excise at Soekarno Hatta Airport thwarted the smuggling of 1.2 kilograms of cocaine from Brazil on Tuesday (10/11) at around 23:00 WIB.

"We did a joint investigation and we found a woman from Peru with the initials EAM (39) who is suspected of hiding cocaine in her stomach,” said Commissioner Mukti Juharsa.

From this information, the officers arrested EAM after the plane landed at Soekarno Hatta Airport. The officer then took EAM to the nearest hospital for a urine examination and x-ray.

"She hid the drugs by swallowing it, so that the urine test is positive for cocaine and the X-ray results also contain some kind of balls in the suspect's stomach," explained the Director of Narcotics of the Metro Jaya Police, quoted from Antaranews.

The officers took two days to remove all the capsules containing narcotics that the suspect EAM swallowed.

A total of 116 capsules were removed from the suspect's stomach and when examined, the capsules tested positive for cocaine with a total weight of 1.2 kilograms.

Director of Narcotics Investigation of Metro Jaya Police confirmed that the woman from Peru (EAM) brought cocaine from Brazil to Indonesia to be circulated in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta. The cocaine users came from the upper classes because the price was very expensive, which was around Rp10 million per gram.

Commissioner Mukti Juharsa, confirmed that the investigation into the international narcotics smuggling case was still ongoing and officers were currently investigating to whom the cocaine would be delivered.

"She was threatened with a minimum sentence of six years in prison or a maximum sentence of capital punishment," concluded Commissioner Mukti Juharsa.
