Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Metro Jaya Regional Police uncovered a major operation involving the distribution of illegal used goods, including used clothing and electronics and named two suspects in the case.

During a press conference held on Friday (24/3/23), Police Senior Superintendent Aulia Lubis, Director of the Special Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, revealed that police had confiscated 535 sacks of used clothing, 577 illegal mobile phones, and 27 electronic tablets.

Based on the investigation, the suspects have been engaging in used clothes trading since 2018-2020, generating profits of up to Rp 31.76 billion.

β€œIn the case of used clothing, the suspects usually import them directly from overseas via the e-commerce platform Alibaba or source them from multiple importers, sort them, and resell them,” he explained.

In addition to the used clothing, the police found that the suspects were also involved in the illegal sale of mobile phones and tablets. The suspects purchased the items from existing traders and affixed the IMEI number from old phones to enable them to operate immediately, which generated a profit between Rp 100,000-Rp 150,000 for each unit.

The suspects have been operating their illegal business since November 2022, generating a monthly turnover of Rp 400,000,000 and profits of Rp 1.5 billion.

Both suspects have been charged with a range of offenses under Indonesian law, including violations of the Electronic Transactions and Information Law, the Consumer Protection Law, and the Trade Law.
