Operation Zebra 2022 Aims to Discipline the Road Users

Tribratanews.polri.go.id Regarding the implementation of Operation Zebra 2022, which will start on October 3-16, the Head of National Police Traffic Corps Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi said that enforcement of violations was not only carried out by means of manual or electronic ticketing (ETLE), but officers could also issue warnings.

Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi added that although ETLE is now have been installed across 34 provinces in Indonesia, the task of the traffic police cannot be replaced by the presence of ETLE alone, but thanks to ETLE, the task of the police is indeed has been reduced.

“Ticketing or not, it is within the authority of members based on the law, which is discretion. So we don't have to ticket the people, we could have just say, ’please don't do it again, okay?’,” said Inspector General Firman.

He continued, that in Operation Zebra 2022, all police in the area will approach the citizens and take action against them in many different ways. “Our mindset must be changed, that the police are not someone that you should be feared, it is not the ticketing that we want to do, but to discipline the people in the road. It is for our own sakes after all," he explained.

Regarding the police's discretion, can the traffic police still be able to ticket, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi emphasized that in principle all violations can be ticketed. But if you get a ticket or not, once again, the police still have the discretion.

“The National Police Chief hopes that won’t be any unlawful officers who took advantage of this opportunity to extort the community," explained Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi.
