The Operation Zebra 2022 Aims to Increase Public Awareness in Traffic Law

Tribratanews.polri.go.id -  Operation Zebra 2022 officially started on Monday (3/10/22) aimed to disciplined the violators in traffic as a form of preventing traffic accidents.

The Head of Traffic Corps, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi said that the main issue of traffic disorder is traffic jam and traffic accident. “Traffic jam and traffic accident becomes our main problem, especially if those issue claimed casualties,” he said, Monday (10/3).

The Two-Star General explained that one of the main causes of the traffic accident is how low the awareness of the driver regarding the traffic law.

“One of the main causes of the accident is that the awareness of the people regarding the traffic law, particularly accident caused by the driver. Obviously this must be studied together as an evaluation to suppress the number of the accidents in the road. The main thing that must be improved is the awareness of the public regarding the traffic law,” said the Head of Traffic Corps.

He explained that the goal of the Zebra Operation is to suppress the number of traffic violations and the casualties of the traffic accident, while also improving the awareness of the road users regarding the traffic law. “So, with this goal in mind, we hope that it’s not about how often we processed the violators, but how high the awareness of the people we can improve through this operation,” he explained.

Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi stated that several rules that usually violated by the traffic users. That includes underaged drivers, using phones while driving, and others.

“Some people underestimated the use of seat belt, while those very belt was designed to suppress the number of casualties in traffic accident. We also paid our attention to the violators who ignored the red lights and drive recklessly in the road,” said the head of Traffic Corps.

The Two-Star General also explained that the law enforcement in the road is not only done manually but also supported by the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE).

“We also enforced the traffic laws through electronic, which is through static camera that have been installed throughout the traffic, or through our personnel who will used mobile technology. These personnel would also be able to remind, educate, and invite the public not to violate the traffic law,” said Inspector General Firman.
