Tribratanews.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The House of Representatives (DPR) has voiced their support for the Sorong Sub-Regional Large City Police in their efforts to arrest individuals who made death threats against journalists at Teropong News in Sorong. The threats were made in response to the news outlet’s coverage of alleged illegal logging in the region.

Desmond Junaidi Mahesa, a member of DPR Commission III, said the police should have already made arrests, particularly as the faces of the perpetrators who stormed the Teropong News office and intimidated the journalists were clearly captured on video.

“I assume that if the police have not yet made arrests, the investigators may still be searching for evidence related to the criminal elements of the case since no murder has taken place,” he said as quoted by Teropong News on Thursday (23/3/23).

Witnesses reported that the perpetrators not only demanded the removal of the illegal logging news, but also threatened to burn down the office and decapitate any journalists they encountered on the streets.
